So when times are good you should reciprocate, as best you can, how you feel into your work, or those around you. When things happen that aren't good... I have to internalize it. I have to over think everything in my head and get it out of my system, so to speak. Move on and be positive as best and as fast as you can. You can't bring the energy down around you or productivity or overall production value will fall.

It works. I'm feeling better about today. The image of a performer clumping to a pile on the ground on stage because a flying winch brake broke is fresh in my head and still bothering me. However; because our performer was already kneeling towards the ground in her final flying position, her descent to a pile however unexpected, did not hurt her. Also, according to our technical director; this is an issue with the nodes in the controller box. Nothing we could have done, seen, or inspected would have stopped this from happening.

Lucky stars will be counted when i can see them through this light pollution, or when i stay up a little later and head to the geocaching secret spot i found today. either way. still glad to be here in Hershey. the sweetest place on earth...

best of luck and peace n love
-drewfus

hershey love

I figured out that i don't want to pursue my wants and desires.

Someone has to need me...

your last living memory...before you die.

After taking my beloved philosophy class that begot this particular blog, i started to loose faith; Oh well hopefully i can move onto respectable employment with union calls here shortly.

onto september though all of jacksonville has been blessed with monumentally great seasonal surf. funny though, yesterday i rolled over the tail of my loving longboard after parking it precariously underneath my truck. that was kind of stupid on my part, but as much fun as i've had in 2 days of surf it was way worth it.

this concludes the August 2008 profit and loss evaluation

psychology

I believe that i am prone to disappointment in other human beings.

Unrequited love

I'll give Douglas Anderson as much credit as they deserve for teaching me the definition outright. Its a hard concept to wrap your head around in high school but at the time i thought i understood. I did. I was right. Both times.

Not even that the love was unrequited; far from the truth actually. The love the way i wanted and saw it, was though. Thats what hurts. As some human beings we are prone to project how we feel and what we want into startlingly close lines that sometimes get blurred, disregarded or otherwise just ignored. Then when the EPA finally recognizes and calls out the error...

who's to blame?

there are now two people who can bring me to tears by their presence simply being or not being associated with me. I also just saw a commercial advertising the "Pickens Plan" a goal that promises to meet our electric needs by wind power to the amount of twenty percent. reasonable and agreeable I say. the point in the commercial that sparked this blog however was seeing the sweetest pickup I've seen of late an '07 and onward Chevy silvarado.

I profess to know something about cars. I have this deep seeded obsession with that which is automotive. on any level in any form. It isn't something many people think about so rather than ask the question no one has a ready answer for i ask
why ARE we moral, that is human morallity comes from some source and i want to know what it is.

My view for this question is that our morality is a part of the social reasoning our brain computes every second that we need it. This takes a step away from the traditional belief that are morals are religious standards that we have learned from our parents our place of worship and ultimately from a higher being of holiness. This also agrees strongly with the theory of evolution and survival of the fittest.

Blog 3

This video debates the idea of christian morality, and the morality we typically think of as coming from any god's commandments. I also agree with his view on obeying orders as a bad moral stance.

Blog 2

Why should we be moral?

It's an interesting question by itself and one most humans seem to have their own specific views on. Morality, defined by Answers.com breaks into four distinct ways of looking at the concept
1. The quality of being in accord with right or good conduct.
2. A system of ideas of right and wrong conduct; christian/religious morality
3. virtuous conduct
4. A rule or lesson in moral conduct
They provide interesting directions in which to look at morality, but they generally tend to agree with the same concept of right and wrong though not through the same eyes.

One thing that intrigues me about this question isn't why we should be, but rather why we are moral. Jean Decety a neuroscientist at the University of Chicago said "Being able to recognize -- even experience vicariously -- what another creature is going through was an important leap in the evolution of social behavior. And it is only a short step from this awareness to many human notions of right and wrong."
I pretty much grew up living by christian/religious moral standards but have never really put thought into the fact that i have moral standards.

Hume's moral theory which is simply that how we act morally towards one individual is at least recognized by a third individual. This starts to suggest how our actions towards individuals don't just affect ourselves or the specific individual but those around you and in turn society as a whole. Once we get that far, the answer to the original question starts to become clear, and starts to agree with the social contract side of things.
Again this is something that had rarely ever crossed my mind and certainly never in the context of morality. Interestingly enough Hume's theories follow after theories of his predecessors that started to make the vague association of moral reasoning to sensory perception which we know now to be related.

The debate over free will and Why should we be moral

The debate:
The idea of free will is an intriguing question to me and i'm sure a lot of people out there. Free will is a concept that seems to be in our heads from the day we're born. I've always just assumed we as humans have free will. From what i've skimmed in problems from philosophy it turns out that there are a few contradictions and opinions to work through before we can understand free will. It's convenient that i chose these two topics because free will is related very closely to moral responsibility according to the internet encyclopedia of philosophy.

The question:
The question of morality is something people can relate or think they can relate to. For people raised as a christian, the idea of morality is just a fact of life for the most part. For the most part i tend to act on a level headed set of morals that satisfies people most of the time. I don't usually question my actions morally, but maybe after reading more of the aforementioned chapter i can gauge myself on morality. This issue like The debate has several convincing arguments going in either direction of the point.

i guess we will see thursday.

video

Welcome!

The blog of frogs. A curious name no doubt, but does it really mean anything? No not at all, i just felt like finding a clever name for my blog and that's as good as it gets. I'm not even sure what this is for. I've heard rumors that we will be writing about our favorite chapter. Initially i thought we'd use this space to debate and talk over our life philosophy.

AH! so our first post is 'what is philosophy?' fair enough...

the study of thought is the first thing i can think of.
defined by wikipedia as the discipline concerned with questions of how one should live, what sorts of things exist, the nature of knowledge, and the principles of reasoning.

those are satisfying answers for me. till later good vibes..
